1. PG-13Under the Proboards TOS we have a PG-13 rating. This means that when things start to go down in your thread that may be a little risky you will need to fade to black. A good rule of thumb is if you don't see it during prime time television, then dont describe it in detail. You can elude it happens, we just don't need to know how exactly this went down 2. BE ACCEPTINGSo long story short... we are all human beings and we deserve to be treated with respect, but we are also all different. We don't need to be put down for our differences or things that make us, us. Therefore, we will not tolerate any form of discrimination or bullying behavior towards our members. 3. IP PROXIESWe strongly discourage the use of IP proxies in order to dodge any restrictions that may be put in place. If we find that you are using a proxy and a secondary alias then there will be consequences. Restrictions will only be put in place in order to be fair to those joining our site. 4. TIME FRAMEIn order to see characters grow into their roles in the plot, we run on a time frame of 2 weeks per IC month. If you are ever in doubt as to what month we are now in, this can be found in the table beneath our header on each and every page you are on.
character creations
1. NO GARY/MARY SUES For those who are new to role-playing,Gary and Mary sues are characters who are good at everything. Simply stating, every character should have something they aren't good at. Take Hermione for example, in many classes she was an O student however she struggled with Divination and even struggled to take on a boggart during her end of third year exam. She was also short tempered. Giving characters weaknesses doesn't make them weak, in fact it makes them relate-able and more interesting.
2. NO CHARACTERS FROM OTHER SERIES/UNIVERSES We are a Harry Potter roleplay site, as such we will not allow any Percy Jacksons, Simbas, or other such characters from different series (whether they be books, movies, or tv shows). If we find that your character is too similar to a character that is not in the HP verse then we will ask you to change them.
3. HOUSES Here at Red Flag we acknowledge the fact that events from a child's childhood can influence who they become. That means that we won't ask you to choose their house until they are entering their first year at Hogwarts. Staff members can decide on a house for your character at the time of approval, simply ask for it in your app.
4. RATIOS When making a new character, we request that you keep in mind the site ratios, as no one really enjoys playing the only straight guy in among 20 girls or vice versa. If we find that the ratios are getting out of hand then we will either place up a restriction or a ban upon them.
5. HOGWARTS STUDENTS ONLY At this time we are only accepting students who are studying at Hogwarts. This will allow us to focus upon the events transpiring in England as the war intensifies. Characters are more than welcome to have immigrated to England however as both students and adults, just beware that immigration rules under Umbridge would be strict.
6. DROP-OUTS We do allow students to drop-out of Hogwarts if that is what you wish for them. Do note however that your teenagd character would be closer monitored by the trace than those who remain in school. To drop out of school, simply PM a member of staff and they will sort it out for you.
7. FACE CLAIMS Due to how fast the time moves we do not have a strict rule as far as face claims go, we only ask that you be fairly realistic with your choice (eg. no morgan freemans for a toddler, or no dylan sprouses playing an 80 year old character). In the interest of being net safe, you may not use yourself as a face claim; you can only use celebrities of some sort (whether they be sport stars, actors, models, etc.)
8. PROFESSOR ACTIVITY As professors are limited in number and are often in high demand we require each professor to post at least 1 lesson each school year in order to retain their position for the next school year. This lesson could be for any years however they should be of a relevant skill level for the year that you are teaching (eg. a charms professor shouldn't be teaching how to use wingardium leviosa through a verbal spell to seventh years)
9. NO BEINGS EMPLOYED BY THE MINISTRY The final law that was passed by Umbridge's ministry that sent the world into war was a law banning the employment of beings within the ministry of magic, as such no characters will be allowed to be working in secret as a being (werewolf, vampire, giant, or veela) as hiding such information from the ministry would be nigh on impossible.
10. ACTIVITY Red Flag currently does not have any character limits in place, however staff do hold the right to deny any further characters should we feel that you are unable to cope with the amount that you currently hold. The deletion of characters is strongly discouraged and will not do anything to change the verdict upon any characters pended due to your activity. We understand that RPing is a past time and not as important as real life, and this is why we are holding the right to pend characters if we feel you are unable to cope.
11. CANON CHARACTERS Out of fairness to other members and future members who may be wishing to take on canon characters you will not be allowed to apply to re-gain possession of a canon character if you have lost possession of them twice before whether it be due to your own choice to delete them or through a missed activity check. This provides new members opportunities to play a canon character and encourages you to think twice before deleting a canon character.
roleplaying
1. GODMODING PROHIBITED Godmoding is when you take control of another played character without their permission. An example of this could be casting a spell and saying that it hit the other person.
2. POWERPLAY PROHIBITED Powerplay is similar in a way to being a mary or gary-sue, however this is when your character knows something they shouldn't (eg a character knowing another character is gay when the only information about it was in the plotter).
3. NO WORDCOUNT We understand that at times it can be difficult to get posts out at times so we don't have a wordcount. We just ask that you give enough for the other roleplayer to work with by trying your best to give a response close to the length of the one you were given in return.
4. THIRD PERSON All posts should be written in third person with exception to a character's thoughts.
5. LIFE CHANGES When it comes to killing a character or your character becoming pregnant you must have the permission of the other roleplayer before doing so.
6. AWAY NOTICES If you won't be on for a bit, we ask that you please leave an absence note in the OOC board. This will alert others as to why you aren't around as well as save you from any activity checks should you be unable to post in it before returning.
graphics
1. PG-13 Once again our board is PG-13 which means your graphics must also abide by these standards. If you dont see it in a kid's movie then it doesn't belong on our board.
2. AVATARS Our site's avatars are 230x400. If you are unable to find an image of the correct size to use as an avatar feel free to ask a staffer and they will happily crop a picture of your choice for you.
c-box
1. ADVERTISEMENTS Linking to another role-play site within the cbox is strictly prohibited. The cb0x is a place to converse with other roleplayers and find plots among fellow members as well as an easy way of the
2. GUEST FRIENDLY Our cbox is guest friendly, so feel free to pop in and ask us any questions that you may have... or even just to say hi!
