Nathaniel had turned sixteen on June fifteenth and he could still hardly believe that at this time next year, he would be considered an adult. It was amazing! He could hardly wait for that moment of freedom. He was planning to leave home and never look back.

He hadn't told Daniel about any of this though. He hadn't even told Daniel about his parents change in attitude towards him. Apparently, it had been fine when he was just gay in theory but not so much when he was actually in love with another boy. He would be fine.

Daniel was at work so Nathaniel had figured he would stop by to surprise him with a home cooked lunch. He had gotten distracted by a couple of the dogs that had been let out to stretch their legs or something. Nate put the bag of food he had brought aside and sat on the floor as the dogs climbed on him for attention.

Laughing, Nate pet the dogs and scratched behind their ears.

There weren't many things that differed between Nate and Daniel, that was probably why they were so well matched, but they did however share different views on impending adulthood. While Nate was looking forward to the impending freedom, Daniel found the thought of the extra responsibility a little daunting. Due to being students there wasn't much they had to worry about besides doing well in their exams.... whether they be school examinations or Ministry required examinations such as OWLs or NEWTs.

But with adulthood came other concerns, and he just wasn't sure if he was ready enough for that.

Luckily however he did know that he could put his trust in Nate. Today he was choosing to help his mother out in her clinic, but his boyfriend chose to come and visit. So naturally he had to find some sort of excuse not only to slack off but to sneak in a cigarette without his mother noticing. So he decided it was perfect timing to take some of their more recovered four legged friends for some exercise behind the clinic. At first Nate was helping him to bring the dogs out... but somehow ended up beneath the dogs that he had been walking.

"Be careful Nate... that one is recovering from being neutered.... don't want to wreck it's stitches now do we?"

After successfully warning his partner of the potentially gorey and messy situation he could face should they push one of their animal companions too far, Nate pulled out a cancer stick from the pocket of his jean jacket and stuck it within his mouth before lighting it

“Of course not,” Nate chuckled as he scratched behind the dogs ears. Looking over at Daniel, he scrunched his nose up in disgust when he saw the ravenclaw lighting up a cigarette. He hated the smell of cigarette smoke. It reminded him too much of his father who was the worse of his two abusers. Again, he reflected on how he couldn't wait to escape that hell hole. “Are you even allowed to smoke around the dogs?” He asked as he managed to get back on his feet. It was entirely too easy for the bigger dogs to knock his five foot self down.

And there it was. A question that he didn't quite know the answer to. He simply gave a shrug before flicking a few of the ashes off of the end of his cancer stick.

"The others do... don't see why I can't."

He gave his boyfriend a rather charming smile before taking another hit from the cigarette that he held, his eyes shifting between the dog and his boyfriend. It was a sight too cute to ignore, and a sight that was kind of a dream of his. He could really see the two of them living together in a house that they owned being loved to death by the dogs they owned.

"Maybe we should adopt a kitten when we graduate... you definately don't look like a dog person..."

He laughed at his little tease, hoping that Nate would argue back in a cute manner yet pick up on the fact that he was only joking.
