Valentines Day was usually one of Professor Harper's least favourite days. Even when he wasn't single, it just felt so cynical. To be honest Brandon was genuinely surprised when he learned that muggles celebrated the same silly way. However, even Brandon couldn't deny the fact that it did set a romantic atmosphere. It inspired him to sort something out. Brandon regretted the way he had to do it, but his romantic interest wasn't exactly widely known and would be accepted. He had sent a message with another student, just a note placing Jack in detention here tonight. Now Brandon sat waiting in the office at the side of his class room, having set a table with a meal he himself had cooked, and a bottle of oak matured meed. He was perhaps worried that he was going too far, but if this did turn into a first date, he wanted it to be the best one he could manage.
Brandon was not proud of the move he made on Jack. Not because he regretted kissing the boy, because of how awkward he had been leading up to it. Because his attempt to 'help' the situation had probably only made the poor boy more confused. He hoped this would make things better. No stupid advice, no pushing him. No long winded explanation. Just company, and appreciation for the handsome young man who would hopefully soon join him. Needless to say he cared a lot for all of his students but there was just something about Jack that had rung true with him. He wanted to do more than just help the young man through his schooling. He wanted to actually be a part of the young man's life.
Brandon was just contemplating whether he'd rather extinguish the magical lighting that he'd bought from a store in Diagon alley, and light his office by candles, or if that was too far, when he heard a knock on the door. He stood for a moment and offered a slightly nervous smile to Jake as the door swung open on its hinges.
"Jack." He greeted.

Confusion filled Jack as he got the message about the detention. What had he done? He hadn't gone out into the forbidden forest. He handed in all of his homework on time. He hadn't done anything to earn himself a detention but he also knew that it was futile to argue with the messenger as opposed to the one who actually sent the message. So with the letter in hand, in case a prefect decided to try and abuse their power, he made his way to the professor's office. He hadn't really thought about that day... the day where the very professor that was summoning him gave him his first kiss... well with a male that is. Had he thought of that day often he probably would have been suspicious of this invitation but he was very much in that mindset where if he didn't remember it then it didn't happen. As he swung the door open however, the nervous smile upon the professor's face was all that he would need to know that this wasn't just some normal detention... just another chance to talk. "Why did you call me here professor?"

Brandon sighed. Was he barking up the wrong tree? He had been so sure that the young man had enjoyed their kiss and that he would want to take it further. He had been convinced that it was just a matter of making another move but now that he saw the young man's uncertainty he himself was a little rattled. He wasn't sure how to be confident in this situation when he literally didn't know if his feelings were returned. There was a world of difference between a forbidden romance, and forcing oneself on a student, and the latter wasn't something Brandon would ever do. Not knowingly. He half considered excusing Jack on the spot because of that, pretending that the note had been some prank that he had nothing to do with, but the young man probably wouldn't believe it, and it would only make things worse.
"I was hoping we could talk about our... exchange at the end of last year. If you're not comfortable with that, then you're welcome to leave." He said simply, nervously. The expression he showed Jack, an uneasy smile, that conveyed his concern and confliict was, he hoped, going to be enough to comfort the boy and to show him that there would be no repercussionsif Jack decided to walk out. Brandon gestured across the table to himself to where he had set a place for his would-be date. He wanted this to go well, but he didn't know where to proceed from here.
"Honestly, no pressure. I'm sorry for the 'detention' cover. It was the easiest way to see you of an evening without raising any questions. I'm not gonna keep you here." He told the other.

In truth, Jack hadn’t stopped thinking about that kiss. There was however a difference between coming to terms with his sexuality and being scared of what that would mean. His parents were very conventional and would be upset if he got with a muggleborn never mind the fact that their biggest fantasy of their only child fathering children for them to love, hype up on sugar and hand the little ones back to him in order to deal with the sugar rush. For him the scariest thing was coming out of the closet. What would his friends think of him? What would his family do to him? But at the same time there was something about just being in the same room as the man whom had given him his first kiss. It almost felt as if he was safe from harm. As if nothing mattered. So essentially Jack stood in the middle of a mine field. One wrong step could destroy his life, and he was petrified that no matter what step he too; his life as he knew it would implode and plunge him into an even deeper and darker hell hole. One where all parties involved left him for dead. He stood there for a moment debating whether he was brave enough to take a shuffle upon the world’s biggest and deadliest minefield, before stiffly and silently taking a seat at the table. It was already clear through his body language that the war within him brewing.

When Jack actually took his seat, Brandon was visibly surprised. He hadn't thought that this would go well. He knew he had to try, but there the younger man was sitting across from him, but something didn't feel right. all the pain and conflict on his face. He watched the young man a little uneasily, feeling a rush of caring and concern for Jack. This must have been hard for him. He didn't know about his family's beliefs about blood purity or their generally conservative attitudes. He honestly didn't know what was causing him so much pain, unless it was the same conflict that Brandon himself was struggling with. He watched the other for a moment realising that he didn't know how to help, as much as he wanted to.
"Help yourself." He said gently doing his best to show a supportive tone in his voice as he began to serve himself. "I don't want anything from you, Jack." he continued. "But I don't regret kissing you either, and if there's something here, then I want to experience that. I know it might be hard for you, but if you decide you want it to, I'll do everything I can to be supportive." He promised the other. Slowly he began to serve his own food, from the spread he'd arrayed before them. It had been a long day of muggle cooking, because he had wanted to make things special for himself and the other.
Brandon stared across the table at the young man. He was handsome, mature, and strong. Brandon was honestly getting a little annoyed of trying to talk like a teacher, and a potential lover at the same time. He had to decide on one other the other, and so he did. He offered a bight smile to the other. "So, how have you been, handsome?" He knew that his shift in tone might have been a little jarring hut this was much more what he wanted to be. Supportive, yes, but loving, and equal to the other. He cared a lot about the young man.

This was a weird situation that the young man found himself in. Here he was... sat across a table from his teacher about to have dinner with him as opposed to his friends. It was so wrong... yet part of him preached that it felt so right. That this right here was what his life needed. A spark. A bit of excitement. Someone to look out for him when he otherwise was unable to do so. Whilst Brandon tucked in, he continued to sit there, his head staring into his lap... his hands folded into one another upon his lap. A part of him felt guilty... for the kiss... for the way that he was feeling... but another part of him felt like that part of him was silly. That other part of him wanted more of what had happened last time he was here. When he was called handsome though red colored his cheek bones. He had never been called that by a man; a woman yes, but never a man. "Who are you calling handsome?"
