Professor Østergård smiled welcomingly as her students entered. She had spent the morning getting her classroom and her office the way she liked it, and preparing for this lesson. The schedule had not been kind to her, she would be taking sixth and seventh years for her first class and that was daunting, certainly. Astrid knew there was a reason she got the job. she had the skills for this. She was personable, patient and magically skilled, but would she truly be able to combine those skillsets, along with her second language in order to teach this class successfully? She felt an obligation to. Her students deserved the best, especially when it came to this incredibly utilitarian and useful form of magic. Astrid slowly made her way to the back of the room, letting the class talk amongst itself, unpack its supplies and otherwise prepare itself, before she took her avian form giving a few powerful flaps she flew low over the class. A means to get their attention, and to demonstrate the power of this particular branch of magic. It wasn't for the purpose of showing off, just simply demonstrating what she could do as as a form of insentive for dedicated students.
She shifted back, sitting on her own desk. "Hello, everyone." She greeted brightly, sitting on her own desk as she watched the students. "I'm Professor Astrid Østergård, and I think it's important that I should spend the beginning of this lesson getting to know each of you." She said genuinely brightly, wanting to know her young friends, and understand them. "If we could go around the room, and introduce ourselves, I would appreciate it." She was gentle in her tone still bright and happy. She had other plans for the lesson at first, but Astrid would want to get a feel for the class and learn the names of each of her students. "Well start going clockwise." She said gesturing to the first student with a smile.
The desks were arranged in a large letter U shape around the room, so as to leave a wide area for demonstrations of transfigurative magic in the center of the room. Astrid moved slowly into the center of this area.
