Only Dark Skies That Hang Above [Evie]

It was the morning hours when Jacob decided to go to the Great Hall to get his daily breakfast in. The fifth year male had a rough night the night before, only getting very little sleep and was now dragging his feet. His hair was still a mess, which was unusual for the Blackwell teenager because he mostly cared about his hair. But he also cared about the wellbeing of his twin sister, Evie and was a little concerned for her these days. Okay, so he was concerned for her everyday of the week. His entire life perhaps. She needed to be more careful and of course the stubborn girl would never listen to her idiot brother.



Jacob had flopped down in his seat, helping himself to food and stealing something off his sisters plate without asking permission. Hey, he was her brother. It was something he’d do to her for the rest of her life. If she survived that long. “Never fear sis, brother bear is here to save you from this…” he eyed the plate as he took a bite of the food item he had stolen moments before.

Early mornings did not stop Evie to get breakfast as fast as possible. She needed to work out, make her body be as strong as it could be. The brunette smiled a bright smile when her brother plopped down beside her. Sure he could be an immature ass sometimes but in the end he is her brother.

She watched him take some food off her plate and frowned a bit. "Vanilla cream pancakes." she chuckled and grabbed a plate of bacon and handed it to her brother. "More your taste." she said with a slight grin. Evie was bit amused by her brother.

"How are you?"

The young male made a gagging noise, shaking his head as he noticed the pancake he had taken a bite out of in his hand. Gross. Why would she do that to him? Was she trying to kill him? This was sibling abuse and he will not have it. There was a fake glare from the male as he took a slice of bacon off the plate she had handed it to him. "Thank you." he said and sighed a bit as he glanced around at the other students in the great hall.



"I'm very well besides you trying to kill me with your pancakes." he teased and winked as he grabbed a glass of juice, looking inside it before he took a sip. "Couldn't sleep last night for some reason." he admitted. He couldn't lie to his sister. She was all he had in this school. There was no one else he can trust besides her.

Evie ate from her pancakes and hummed a bit as she did so. She had a special taste whether her brother liked it or not. She chuckled at his comment about the pancakes, shaking her head slowly. "I was not, you just steal my food." she said and pulled her plate a bit closer.

"Well me neither." she said and frowned a bit as she looked down at her plate. "Nightmares?" she asked him softly knowing damn well what happened to them last summer was hell for the both of them after all.

Jacob had taken a few slices of bacon off the plate, taking large bites to avoid commenting on that fact it was nightmares that kept him awake. They had been through trauma and he wouldn’t want to mention that it bothered him to this day. Perhaps he should just be over it, forget that it had happened in the first place. But the scars were there, and Jacob could see it even if she didn’t want to talk about the incident that almost took her from him.

”Uh huh.” he nodded as he glanced at her for a moment and sighed a bit. ”Just bugs me, you know. I wish I can forget it but it’s just there in my mind.” he frowned a bit as he dropped the pieces of bacon onto the plate. ”I’m just glad we’re okay. I know I should put it behind me, sis.”

Evie remembered how the man pushed her against a wall and aimed his gun at her. How she blinked and before she knew it the man was gone with her money and her shoulder was bleeding. The brunette took his hand in her own and squeezed it.

If there was one thing she felt in her life it was how close she was to her brother. Not close enough to make it disgusting but he was her other half and she needed him. She remembered sleeping in his bed when she was scared and crying in his arms when she was hurt.

"I have them too." she said softly and looked down for a moment. "I'm not over it either.."

Jacob had no idea how to admit how he felt about what had happened and he wanted to get some closure. He had to tell himself that his sister was alive, well and was still her stubborn self. Even if the shooting incident had tortured them both, he knew they had to move on at their own pace. All the young male wanted was to keep himself from having another nightmare of the night that almost took his best friend from him.

A smile appeared on his face as he looked at their hands together and he felt his nerves leave him. Evie had always managed to keep him calm in the hardest times and they were always there for the other. ”Well, they said it’d take a while for the trauma to fade in the background. Just wish I can keep it from flooding my brain.” he admitted and leaned over to kiss her head.

”I know I don’t say it as often because well, I’m a jerk. But I do love you.” he said softly before taking a bite of his bacon and looked over at the Slytherin table. ”We have each other. Don’t have to worry about the thing.”

Evie knew that Jacob still suffered like she did. They were both almost robbed of something precious and no matter who her brother would end up dating or who she would end up seeing, it would never get in the way of their twin bond. It was too special. 

"Hey monkey.. you will always have me here." she knew that monkey was her nickname to him and usually she would use it when they were sad or needed each other, it was just one of those cute twin names. 

"I can stay at your dorm tonight, screw what other boys think." she offered and stole a bite of his bacon.

The bond the twins had was something Jacob needed to keep him sane, and out of trouble even if it's the both of them causing mayhem around the school grounds. They had been there for each other, always will be and he knew it'd take time to forget what had happened. The Blackwell male wanted nothing more than to make sure no one messed with either of them. He'd never forget that night, it'll following for the rest of his life. 

There was a small smile when he heard his nickname and he nodded. Perhaps they just needed to hang out for the most part. There's no way he'd pass that up - and if someone harassed his sister, they'd have to deal with one of the best chasers in their house. He'd beat up a classmate for his sister, and probably had done so in the past. 

"You sure that won't be a problem? The guys are morons."
