Berkley ruffled his red hair. He did this a lot and it was a habit that he had almost all his life. It used to annoy his father a lot before he left. His father had been a politician and he had liked the image of a perfect family. Him, his beautiful red haired wife and son. His son, however was not the smart, strong and athletic boy that he wanted. Instead he got the odd and always unkempt freak that was not presentable for photo opportunities.

So he left.

He remembered his mother crying when she received the divorce papers. It was his fault, Berkley had known it and though his mother kept on saying that it wasn’t Berk knew that it was. She didn’t speak to him for a month when his father got re-married and finally got the perfect family that he always wanted. He had never met his half-siblings and he doubted that they even knew about Berk and his mother.

He was now a high ranking member of parliament and was tipped to his party’s next leader. His mother, on the other hand, was in a muggle hospital dying and there was nothing that Berk could do about it. She had joked once that he could cure her with some magic potion or a wave of his wand but they both knew that he couldn’t. Cancer was not something that could be fixed by magic after all and if it could he wasn’t sure that it would work on a muggle.

He picked up his mother’s hand as she slept in her lonely room and listened to the beeps of machines that kept track of her heart rate and pumped chemicals through her system.

A steady hand held her wand as she used one of her healing spells to close up a wound that a student had received during Quidditch practice. She was the one that was called when these kinds of things came into the hospital wing, because he had the steadiest hand and could get a clean closure on even the deepest of wounds.

"Made you should refrain from trying any new tricks while unsupervised, huh," she said to the young male with a playful smile to let him know that she wasn't fussing but merely making a suggestion that he be more careful next time. Chryssa's deep brown gaze flickered up to meet his for a quick second before returning to her work.

"Alright, all done," she announced as she straightened and inspected the thin line left on the student's skin. Much better than the gash he'd come in with. While it would scar just a little, it was better than a huge, ugly one that they could have wound up with. The young boy thanked her and gently tested his weight on the leg that had been injured. With a smile of excited approval up at her, he took off. Whether he was headed to his common room or back out to the quidditch pitch, she wasn't sure, but she was glad he was okay as she began to clean up.
