Old and New (Minki)

It had a been a while since Oliver had retired from playing Professional Quidditch and though he had never really hit the heights as he had wished it had been fun and it wasn’t as if he wasn’t still involved in the game. It was just not as public. He had always that he would head into coaching or something similar but here he was Director of the British and Irish Quidditch Leagues at the Ministry of Magic.


He had just finished having a bite to eat the Leaky Cauldron and was heading into a meeting with the owner of Quality Quidditch Supplies as there had been developments in broomsticks and other Quidditch gear that Oliver wanted to check out. He could off sent one of his employees to do this but he liked to go and do this kind of thing every now and again. He was particularly interested in seeing a new prototype for a new broomstick that had just been released though the name of the broomstick had not been released as yet.


Stopping in front of the shop he looked into the windows and remembered doing the same thing when he was little. Looking down he saw a boy of around 10 doing exactly the same thing with his father standing beside him. Smiling at the boy and at his father he headed to the door and pushed it open.

Minki was helping a couple buy their daughter's first broom when he spied the league director walking in the front door of the shop. There was a bright smile on his face as he spoke with the couple then looked to their daughter to size her up. He was good at doing that - sizing people up to determine the broom that would be the best suited for them. His robes turned and flowed around him as he spun around and stepped behind the counter, taking a broom from the rack there - a Nimbus 2017. Granted yes, it was a model that was two years old, but for her first broom, it would be perfect, and he'd had a hand in helping with its development, so he knew that it was a really good broom. He would have loved to have pushed his new release, but for a first-timer, he knew that it would be too much to handle.

Minki took care of the purchase and carefully wrapped the broom so that it didn't get damaged in transport. He thanked the family then watched as they left. Once they were gone, he swept out from behind the corner and made his way over to Oliver, whom he recognized from the Ministry. "Good morning, Director Wood," he greeted with a smile, hands clasped in front of him. "I presume you're here about the new broom prototype," he continued, lifting a hand to run it through his blond hair, his dark roots showing dominantly from beneath the blond.

Oliver stood back as the proprietor of the store finished with his last customer. He sold the family, parents and their daughter, a nimbus that seemed to be a 2017 model and a good first broom for most children the girl’s age. He gave a small smile and nod at the family as they left the store before turning his attention fulling to Mr Kim.

He was quite a busy man, owning the store as well as teaching at Hogwarts and working at Ministry and so Oliver had seen him around. He also stood out, though Oliver didn’t see that as a bad thing. He was quite tall with dyed hair and though Oliver was not familiar with the Japanese League he knew that Minki had had a successful career as a seeker with Toyohashi Tengu.

“Good Morning, to you too Mr Kim” bowing slightly and then holding out his hand with a smile on his face. He was starting to feel a little giddy. “Yes, I am. I have been received an owl from the creator and he has informed me that you had received one.”
