Ginny wiped the blackboard with a flick of her wand, smiled brightly and wished her class a good day as they exited the room, and then waited patiently as, one by one, or some in twos, her next class filed in. They found their places with more or less the same amount of grumbling as their younger compatriots although of course she was quite sure that if she were to mention such a thing to them, they would deny it to the very last. Nevertheless, it was the case and the redhead knew very well that it was likely to be the same for her sixth and seventh year students as well. Such was the life. She had not chosen a conventionally exciting subject to teach, she was well aware, but she was at least an improvement on her own teacher. "Right." she began briskly. "New term, new topic, and today we're going to start looking at the goblin rebellions. There are a lot of them, and some of them are quite similar, so you'd better pay attention otherwise you'll get them mixed up. This should be a good topic for those of you who like a bit of blood, but this is not a horror film and so I'm afraid we'll not be going into too much detail. Ok, so, the goblin rebellions took place between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries- mostly. Some were earlier, some were later, and I dare say that there are a few goblins who would be quite prepared to have another one today. Can anyone give me the date of one goblin rebellion? It's fine if not- think about your chocolate frog cards." There were, she knew, a fair few characters from the rebellions featured on those. tierney brennan james potter ollie long talon hobbs yorick shacklebolt @zachary daniel kipper

James really didn’t like history of magic. There just wasn’t any fun in the subject, but most subjects at Hogwarts were the same. He dealt with it because he didn’t have a choice at the moment. He didn’t do his best work, though, and was pretty sure he was only passing the class because his mother was the professor. He filed into the room, taking a seat at the very back of the classroom, slouching in his chair. He only half listened to his mother speaking, so he only caught half of what she said, not that he’d be able, or willing, to answer her question anyway.

Ginny waited optimistically for a moment or two, then sighed inwardly. Merlin, this was going to be a long lesson... In fact, it was going to be a long day. But then it was always like this when they first came back after Christmas. No one wanted to be there, the weather was depressing and overall, the atmosphere was simply not conducive to any kind of effective teaching. But she had to be here, and she was going to do her best. She always did.
"No?" she queried brightly and totally rhetorically. "Never mind. Let's start in 1612, then. This one is rather close to home, the rebellion took place in and around the village of Hogsmeade, and the wizarding forces were headquartered in the Three Broomsticks. Think about that next time you're having your Butterbeer. This was one of the more violent rebellions; there was one point at which the school itself was threatened. Can anyone tell me who the Minister for Magic was at the time?"

Melle wasn't particularly fan about this topic. Sadly the wizarding history was filled with wars and they were currently in one. Today he'd take mostly notes because as Professor Potter said these Goblins wars could be tricky. He wanted to be able to provide them for the students who missed today's class so that they were still able to pass their exam. The teacher asked for a date of a rebellion, Melle had just missed that call. The tale of the 1612 war started, quite a while ago but here in Hogsmaede.
Melle blinked when Professor Potter asked who the Minister of Magic was at that time. He was a little confused about that question. Nervously the young Slytherin rose his hand. "Ehm... Professor... if I recall correctly, the Ministry of magic wasn't funded yet until 1707," he said big insecure eyes gazed at the red head Professor, hoping he hadn't said anything stupid.
Note: I got this information from the Potter wikki, correct me if I'm wrong.

"Exactly so." the redhead agreed with a smile for the boy who had answered. "Five points to Slytherin. There was, indeed, no Ministry for Magic at the time. Instead, Britain was governed by the Council of Wizards, and since there was no Ministry, there could of course be no Minister. This will be important as we move on with this topic. The lack of clear authority on the side of the wizards played a crucial part in the course of events as they unfolded. Anyone like to guess why?"

As information was given, Talon made sure to record it down in the form of jot notes on the parchment before him. Of course he would turn these notes into paragraphs at a later date, but for now he just needed bullet points that he could build those paragraphs from. When the professor asked a question that he knew however his hand instantly went up before he provided his answer. "There would have been a lot of confliction and confusion right? No one would know where the laws of one council ends and another begins... not to mention the different ideals and stances that each council would have. Not to mention that different people would have different loyalties to various different councils."He hoped that he was at least along the right track with his answer there, after all, he didn't want to embarrass himself by completely wrong.

The small Slytherin smiled timidly when the Professor told him he was right. Melle was glad he didn't have to doubt his own memories. A council of wizards, huh? He noted to ask his surrogate father more about the current ministry and politics. He was aware that werewolves weren't welcome right now. However his condition was well hidden and covered by the people who adopted him. They both worked for the Ministry and he had attended official parties with them before. Perhaps he should owl him after class. For now he wanted to pay attention. He took notes and nodded at what the Ravenclaw said. There indeed wouldn't be someone to make a final decision. People would just squirrel among themselves. Melle didn't feel confident enough to speak up another time.
