Since Christmas his life had changed tenfold. He had more freedom, yet at the same time he felt more welcome. He was more confident in his appearance too. He was no longer the iconic red haired boy from a famous family, but someone who could define his own destiny. His hair had recently been re-done and rather than being a bleach blonde it was now a jet black.
He was no longer an albino; but an adolescent werewolf trying to find his place within this large world.
Today the boy decided to go for a walk along the River Thames. He didn't care if someone tried to call him a truant. It was his life, and to be honest he was starting to enjoy the thrill that came with the potential of getting caught. With a grin upon his face he sat upon a bench by the river's edge, stretching out his legs and with his hands behind his head as he looked up into the sky. He seriously had no care in the world at this point in time.

He knew the boy was nearby. Nero could always detect a werewolf even from the farthest distances even when there were other stronger scents in the air like the nearby Thames and each werewolf had a certain scent to them and Nero knew that this was his. There were no other scents that were of consequence around him so the boy was essentially alone which is how Nero wanted their first encounter to be. Dulf had been protective of the boy which made it hard for Nero to get near him. They were both alphas and though there was a level of respect for that fact they would be always be rivals because of it. It also meant that they could not interfere with each others territories and/or packs. Nero, though, was also a General in the werewolf Army and though not official Dulf was also in the army which Nero outranked him and it was with this authority that Nero was making his move. Hugo Granger-Weasley It had been a tactical move and even a smart one to a point. He was, after all, a member of the Weasley family and the nephew of Harry Potter. The move had been done well. Cosy up to him and isolate him from his family. Manipulate and make him dependant on you and promote the benefits of the lifestyle until he wishes to part of it. Smart yes but also dangerous and Nero had no doubt that the Potter and Weasley families with the backing of Ministry would come down hard on them all. Dulf, the mongrel, had not been thinking of the wider werewolf community when he made his move only his himself and to an extent his pack. Nero, on the other hand, saw this as an opportunity that could be a benefit to the werewolf cause. There was a benefit to having a werewolf in such a prominent and respected family and with the right tutelage Hugo Granger-Weasley could be a great asset to the Army and to the cause. He would, however, not get that through Dulf but he could and would from Nero. A smirk crossed the face of Nero as he spotted the child sitting on a park bench. His hair was black and Nero scrunched up his nose at that. That would have to change. The kid shouldn’t hide who he is. Approaching the bench he took a seat next to the kid. He wondered if the kid knew who he was or was even aware that he was a werewolf. If he didn’t then he suspected that the kid hadn’t fully embraced the wolf in him yet. Leaning back on the bench one knee bent and high with the other booted leg stretched out he too looked up at the sky. “You have been changed recently and have, on a level, accepted what you are. You may been bitten and you change at the moon but the you still have a long way to go before you are truly a wolf, little Raff,” he said turning his head to look at the boy.

Being a curious young lad, Hugo watched as a man who looked rather rough in apperance took a seat upon the bench beside him. This man carried both a familiar and strange scent about him, almost like his packmates who had become like a family to him. But why was that so? Why did he carry a familiar scent to his pack if he weren't a member of the pack? Due to the familiarity of the scent could he be trusted or should he be running away before harm came to him?
And then the man began to speak.
With each word, the boys look became more and more confused yet at the same time each word drew him in further. He was confused yet hooked on this man's every word, but it was the confusion which won through more than the fascination that had grabbed ahold of him.
"Raff? What's a Raff?"
He looked to the man in a very similar way to that which he looked at Dulf, except it missed a level of depth to it. A level of adoration and warmth was missing from his gaze, but the respect was there. He hadn't breathed a word to him, yet he was able to tell that he was a werewolf. He was able to tell a lot about him without him even talking.

Nero smiled at the boy. You couldn’t say exactly that it was a friendly smile, too much pointed teeth for that but it, wasn’t cruel either. It wasn’t cold but it wasn’t warm either. In some ways it was a smile of appreciation. He appreciated curiosity and the kid was that in spades. He also seemed aware of what Nero was but also confused about it. That was a good thing in his mind. It meant that Dulf was doing something right though he should be further along than he was and he would be if he was in Nero care. “Raff is an english word that means red wolf’,” he said. “I assume that your fur is red when you change despite the fact that you have changed your hair colour. Never hide or be ashamed of what you are whether it be your appearance or your nature. Be true to yourself always as it is better than being false.” He couldn’t help the disgust that came out at the mention of the change in hair colour. He wondered if that had been Dulf’s suggestion so that he would not be easily recognised. It made sense but Nero still didn’t like it. Turning slightly so that he met the boys gaze, he nodded as if deciding what his next move would be. “I take it that you have realised that I am also a werewolf. My name is Nero Gage and I am a General in the werewolf army and a superior to Dulf and you are Hugo Granger-Weasley,” he said holding out his hand. “Yes, I know who you are. Why do you think I called you Raff?” Tagged : hugo granger-weasley

The fact that Nero knew who he waas blew him out of the water and instantly sent the boy into a panic. Was he that recognizeable after a year and with his hair a completely different colour? If a complete stranger to him could work it out... how long was it until the ministry found him and forced him to return to the hell hole that was his parents house?
His dominant hand (which so happened to be his left hand) dove for his wand, his hand gripping it tightly whilst the man continued to talk. He had dissed the man that he had grown to look up to as a father figure. He had bad mouthed the man that had saved him from a terrible terrible fate. The man that had given him freedom in the form of a controless four legged creature.
Soon he explained himself, and unease died to curiosity. A fire burning in the young man's eyes. If he were still able to attend Hogwarts he probably would have been a Ravenclaw simply due to these little rushes of curiosity, these rushes of reckless knowledge seeking.
"If you're the general... does that mean you can control the wolf during the full moon? Dulf told me that very few wolves can without the help of wolfsbane..."
He was quickly becoming like a dog with a bone, questions becoming more rapid fire as he gripped Nero's hand and gave it a shake.
"How did you know who I was? We've never met! What are the battles like? Do many die? How do you join the army?"
He was like a kid on a sugar high, bouncing off the walls with his curiosity.

Every movement that the kid made Nero was aware of and when he move his left hand to where a wand might be Nero saw it. It was all in his training after all, he wouldn’t be much of an army general if he didn’t notice the littlest of details. He couldn’t help but wonder if the kid actually had a wand. He was not of age yet as he would be in school unless he was being homeschooled. He somehow doubted that though. They wouldn’t send one to Hogwarts and homeschool the other unless Hugo was a squib but he somehow doubted that.
So how did Hugo get a wand? He doubted that his parents took him early to Ollivanders to have the wand choosing ceremony happen. It made Nero wonder if a wand could choose a wizard before the age of 11. It didn’t matter now as Hugo would never be allowed to step foot in Ollivanders due to being a werewolf. He also doubted that the wand was inherited.
That left only one option and that was that it was gifted to him but someone else and he suspected that that someone else was Dulf. What had Dulf been teaching the little Raff because he had to be teaching him something because you don’t just give a wand to a minor without teaching him how to use it.
His unease seemed to dissipate and instead that curiosity that had been there earlier returned and Nero’s smiled at the enthusiasm shown by him. His question was an interesting one and one that was not asked and should be asked especially by werewolves made before puberty.
“Yes, I can control the wolf though control is not the right word. It is about acceptance and balance. You might have accepted the bite and not see being a werewolf as a bad thing but there is a balance and the balance means that in turn the wolf that is now inside you must accept you as well. Once the wolf accepts you then wolfsbane is not required.”
He couldn’t help but wonder if Dulf had found the balance or was a regular user of the potion. He couldn’t look down on him though because it meant that he would have to look down on most werewolf kind and he could not do that. Nero was also reluctant to talk bad about him in front of the boy as it was quite obvious that he admired that other werewolf but honestly Dulf knew nothing.
“I don’t know if Dulf can or cannot ‘control’ the wolf without wolfsbane and it is true that many can’t but you also have to see that the potion was created by someone that was not a werewolf themselves and it was most likely created out of fear. That is itself is not a good thing.” The kid took his hand and shook it and it was good shake for someone so young. It was then that the question came out in rapid fire and Nero gave a short bark of laughter and his eyes crinkled a bit. There was something about Hugo and he could see why Dulf had chosen him.
‘Hold on, hold there Raff. One at a time,” he said, smile still on his face. “It is my job as General to be aware of things like the family and connections of those high in the Ministry. Your Uncle is Head of the Magical Law and your mother is his deputy so it only natural that I would be aware of who you are despite the obvious ways that you have tried to conceal yourself.”
His next question was a little harder to answer.
“What are battles like? That is not an easy question to answer and a werewolf battle is a little different I guess as we are always at our strongest when we are transformed. In in battle it is always about information and tactics. You have to know your opponent and the best times to strike. They can be a lot of fun but tedious as well especially it there is some kind of stalemate and yes many people die on both sides. As to joining the army we usually don’t allow children but if they are trained and are willing to fight exceptions can be made.”

With each answer, the boy gave some sign of agreement whether it be a nod or some other form of acknowledgement. He soaked in the information like a sponge would soak up water. He was a young mind after all and was easily molded into whatever someone wanted of him. But he couldn't tell who wanted him to mold him into a better or worse version of himself. He was unable to tell whether they were going to be a good or bad influence however, he was just looking for some way to feel accepted and wanted and to grow closer to the pack that had become his family.
He adjusted to a more open position, putting his more relaxed mood upon display, his curiosity still firing on all cylinders.
"How old were you when you were turned? Did you want to become a werewolf like I did?"

The little nods of acknowledgement coming from the boy were encouraging. Nero could almost seen the information soaking into his brain and this please him. This meant he was eager to learn and he always liked it when a young werewolf was willing to do that. He had met some along the way that thought they knew everything that had to know and it very rarely ended well for them.
There was however a reluctance in him that bothered Nero to a degree but at the same time he understood. Hugo was made and instructed by someone else and had developed a relationship with Dulf while Nero was the new werewolf on the block who was seeking a similar relationship and influence over him. For him to have realised that showed just how much intelligence this boy had and that pleased Nero.
“I was five years old when I was turned and I was turned by my father,” he said. In his mind he could see the moment happen. “As to whether or not I wanted to be a werewolf, there was no doubt in the matter. From the time I could understand what my father was and that I would be a werewolf just like him. He was the General in the army before I was, you know. His name was Vitus Gage and there was only ever one werewolf that was more feared than he was and that was the great Fenrir Greyback.”
There was a hint of pride but a touch of sadness when he mentioned his father and also Fenrir Grayback. He admired them both in very different ways.

It was weird... watching someone gush about their father with pride. It was something that Hugo felt that he could never do... in fact, the only way he could talk of someone the way Nero talked of his father was when he talked about Dulf. He longed so bad to have a good relationship with his family, but that boat had sailed long ago.
"Wish I could talk about my Dad the way you do... but if I did, I probably wouldn't have joined my pack... I probably wouldn't be a werewolf... so perhaps this was all meant to happen? What happened to your Dad by the way? Is he still alive?"
He wasn't aware that he could potentially be hurting the general that stood before him, you see he had never suffered the greif that came alongside with the loss of a family member. Yes, he had lost an Uncle to the war, but he had never gotten to know who the man was, or his morals. He didn't know the pain that would come alongside losing someone so close... at least... not yet.
"He sounds like a cooler Dad than the one I had..."

Nero was probably overselling Vitus Gage a little, Fenrir too but Nero believed that all werewolves needed to learn their history and take strength from those that came before them. Fenrir and Vitus were trailblazers for their kind and though Fenrir was known far and wide Vitus wasn’t. “Little Raff, your daddy has his faults I am sure but mine did also. He was tough old bastard that was for sure and he never really had anything nice or good to say about me. He never thought I was tough or good enough as a man or a werewolf. He considered being a werewolf a universal right and being a strong one even better and naturally I had to be both.” Thought he knew he was talking about his father in the past tense it was hard to believe that he was actually gone. He could see him in his minds eyes, large and looming his eyes glittering and his greying hair long and shaggy. “He died, around 10 years ago now both he and my wife. Both of them died in battle with the Wizard Army. I would give it to him though, he died doing what he what he believed in and maybe to an extent even loved. I can’t say the same for my wife however. She was a werewolf too and a tough one and even though she was a soldier in the army I don’t think she was really cut out for it. She fought because she believed in our cause however and my daddy was never going to say no to a willing a soldier.” It angered him that Lupita joined the army and that his father let her. He also suspected that Vitus allowed her to join because he knew that Nero didn’t want her too. It was one of the many things that was left unsaid between the two of them. Looking over at Hugo he shrugged a bit at his remark about Vitus being cool. “Cool is a matter of perspective Hugo. I wouldn’t call him that and I don’t think he would of liked it either. He never wanted to cool or even liked, I think. He just wanted to be considered tough and a great leader.”

He shrugged at Nero's closing remark, his demeanor changing more to reflect the ashamed boy that he was.
"He sounds like a better man than my Dad though... when the going got tough my day tucked his tail between his legs and ran. He abandoned his friends when they needed him. He turned against them, against the friends that had become family to him and his whole family. And when he did run back to them he ran back with a tail between his legs and licking his wounds."
He ran a hand through his hair before looking upwards and sideways at Nero.
"Your old man stood up for what he believed in. Mine ran away like a coward because he was jealous of his best friend. I'd rather have a father like yours than a father like mine... he'd probably be ashamed of the fact that I was a werewolf despite his ties to Remus Lupin..."
Bitterness dripped from his tone. It was clear that the boy had fully been turned against his parents and didn't ever see himself returning to their loving embrace. A clear indication of his view of their kind and where he fit in with the world.

Nero understood that these thoughts and feelings were coming from a child’s point of view and to an extent Nero could understand it but at the same time he shouldn’t judge his father’s actions the way that he did. Nero had never met Ronald Weasley or any of the Potter Brigade, as he liked to call the inner sanctum, and though he had heard stories Nero was never going to pass judgement of someone just on that. He might have been a Slytherin and Ronald Weasley a Gryffindor but he was not going to vilify him just for that. Now if he had been abusing the child or had made remarks in relation to he himself and his character then it was another matter altogether. “There is an old saying that goes don’t judge a person until you walk a mile in their shoes. I am not condoning what your father did or disregarding your feelings regarding it but at the same time until you go through what he went through and know and feel what he was feeling I would not call him a coward as that is a harsh term to use.” He wasn’t exactly sure why he was defending the boys father. Nero was, after all, trying to recruit him but he had a feeling that it was not just Hugo words coming out but Dulf’s and if Hugo was going to walk this path he wanted to make sure that here was no regret and that if he wished to turn back he could. “When you feel fear, pain, rejection and or jealousy it is hard to see anything through that haze and it makes you do things that you regret. That he knew that he made a mistake and was a able to come back and apologise says a lot about him. Many others would not have. Myself and my own father included. We are both stubborn and don’t like to admit when we are wrong or apologise for any of our actions. ” Nero stopped talking for a moment and contemplated what he was going to say next. “As to your father’s feelings in relation to becoming a werewolf you will never know unless you confront him and find out for certain. Not all witches and wizard would reject their child just because they have become a werewolf. If you do not wish it then it is your choice to make.” Tag: hugo granger-weasley

Packed all my clothes and I moved out, I don't even wanna go to your house ❝ The moment that Nero had suggested that he could still tell his parents of his new-found affiliation he shook his head. He wasn’t going to do that. He wasn’t about to return home to a breaking home. He had a new family now after all which made his old family obsolete. He knew his place in life, and he was there so there was no point in going back. No point in allowing his past to hold him back any more .“Doesn’t matter. I have a new family now, one who doesn’t put work above everything else.”He gave Nero a smile, fully showing that there was no remorse or regret. His only true regret was having not asked to be turned into a werewolf and therefore a full-fledged member of his pack sooner. That it had taken him so long to realize that he truly had a good thing going for him. “Besides, nothing is going to change with them even if they did feel bad about me being a werewolf… they’re going to leave me alone again. I’m where I want to be. Becoming a werewolf and properly joining my pack was the best thing to ever happen to me, its never something I’m going to regret… it’s a gift after all and only those who were meant to have it survive it… isn’t that right?”[attr="class","mizocredits"] [newclass=.mizocredits]width:90px;padding:1px;border:1px solid #969696;margin:5px;[/newclass][newclass=.mizocredits a]color: #d3f4ff;font: bold 6pt calibri; letter-spacing: 1px; text-transform: uppercase;[/newclass]

Nero frowned at the last statement. It had to be something that had to have come from Dulf because it was definitely something that he would say. The sad thing about was the Dulf truly believed it and had passed down that belief to the boy who in turn believed it. Nero shook his head.
“Ah, I take it got that from Dulf?” he asked. “Actually I know that you got that from Dulf. I sometimes think that gets our history and the history of the vampires gets mixed up in mind.”
Nero ran his hand over his stubbled head and down his equally stubbled face. Merlin save him from deluded werewolves.
“He is sort of right when he says that it is a gift but it is a gift in the eye of the beholder. If a werewolf bites another who is not and does not go so as the kill them during the wolf phase then that person will be a werewolf no matter what. Most are not given a choice to be one and they live with it and that is why many of them take the wolfsbane so they do not have to live like a true wolf. They would prefer to be the kept dog than the free wolf. That is if they wish to live at all. Some after the bite wish to end their lives.”
He looked intently in Hugo’s eyes hoping that he would understand what he was saying.
“My father brought me up to believe that being a werewolf was more of a right than a gift. He believed that every witch and wizard should be given the opportunity to become a werewolf and that there are advantages of being one.”
