HISTORY
How shall I begin? Maybe like the muggle, David Copperfield. I am born. I live a little.... I am Jaxon Matthias Jacoby, son and twin brother. I don't remember my birth, but I remember my brother Kayden waiting for me as he had been born first just a few minutes before. Home life was simple - nothing fancy - and it still is to this day. A quaint cottage on the outskirts of Ipswich, just the right size for our family of four. Early on in life, it seemed as though mother and father passed on their affinity for animals, both magical and non-magical alike. We always had plenty around our place of both sorts, including an Augurey that we kept as a pet that mum could rely on to perfectly predict when it was going to rain. It also kept the house free of insects and flies which mum said was a blessing.
Upon turning eleven, my brother and I received our letters to Hogwarts, our parents thrilled even though we had already been showing signs of magic since about the age of six or seven. We made the trip to Diagon Alley, and needless to say, our noses were pressed against each and every window as we admired the wares within. We bought our supplies, splurging on a few since father's Ministry job kept our finances at a comfortable level. Kayden and I enjoyed the process of getting our wands the most, the kindly Mr. Ollivander making sure we were paired with the perfect wand. I still remember the words he kept repeating when during our visit: The wand chooses the wizard. We returned home and began sorting our things into our respective trunks, our pets - Kayden got a beautiful barn owl while I'd been very taken with a lovely black cat with green eyes - watching us. Kayden's owl, Una, kept turning her head this way and that as if trying to figure out what we were doing while my girl, Yvaine, watched with a cat's aire of utter disinterest as she cleaned herself.
The day came when we made the trip to London, arriving there the day before we had to leave for Hogwarts and staying at The Leaky Cauldron. I wasn't going to complain, but in all honesty, our rooms at home were much cozier than those there, but maybe it was because it was a new place to me, and I was just much more at ease at home; I noticed that Kayden seemed to be sharing such feelings, so we took comfort in each other's company as we'd done many times over the years whenever we felt unsettled and/or alone. We slept through the night, I only awakening when I felt Kayden try to sneak into bed beside me, something he'd always done at home when he couldn't sleep; I'd done it before myself. We did it for the comfort of the other. Morning broke, and we packed up what little we'd brought out and headed for King's Cross Station, mother and father showing us how to get to Platform 9 ¾ for the Hogwarts Express, Kayden and I so afraid that we were going to mess up, and that a Muggle would see us and thing we were daft or something; things went smoothly though. We said goodbye to our parents and boarded the train. It began to pull off and we waved until our parents were out of sight.
My twin and I sat in a compartment with a few others our own age, making new friends before we even arrived, leaving the train with our new friends and following the very large man that directed us to the boats that the first years were to use to get to the castle. That first glimpse of it is one of the most magical sights in your life, you can be sure of that. Nothing much else compares to that feeling as that huge castle looms before you all lit up with a warm glow. Exiting the boats, I and my brother walk with the rest of the first years up the staircase until we reach the entrance and are soon directed into the Great Hall and to the front for our sorting. This is something that Kayden and I are nervous about, since we're worried about getting sorted into different houses. However, it is a fear that is put to rest as we are both sorted into Hufflepuff, much to our relief, and we are even placed in the same dorm together, something else that helps us ease into our new life at Hogwarts. It's as if the castle knows we need to be together for the sake of our comfort and sanity.
Thus began school life, and it was a point in my life that I'll never forget and will forever love. No, not everything was happiness and sunshine, but with my brother and our friends, things always managed to work themselves out for the better. We fared well in our studies, but it was pretty apparent which classes we did best in, and Care of Magical Creatures was there at the very top. Again, it was that affinity for creatures showing again. Even the creatures in the CoMC classes seemed to pick up on that affinity. I loved our days at Hogwarts, and seven years flew by before we knew it, and my brother and I were finally graduating. We began to wonder where we would go after, but we knew.
We began working with our mother, a magizoologist, for a while learning about magical creatures more in depth, but soon, I felt myself being pulled in a different path, and I went to work with my father at the Ministry where he was the head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. I was placed in the Beasts Division, and that's where I worked until my father retired and became a dragonologist, at which point, I was promoted into his position, the Ministry having noticed how closely I had worked with him and feeling that I could fill the position as well as he had. A couple months after, I received word that my twin Kayden had joined our father as a dragonologist, and I was proud of him. We had found out places in life, and we were making the best of it.
Things seemed great, but as with all things, they can't stay that way forever. It was after Umbridge became Minister of Magic that I left the Ministry. I knew that once she had power, things were going to take a turn for the worst, and they did. Wanting to be as far from the Ministry as possible, I took a job at Hogwarts as the Care of Magical Creatures professor, writing to mum, dad, and Kayden and letting them know of all that was going on and where I am now.
