Something was up - and Scorpius meant more than just with his own family. He knew Albus quite well and he could tell that something was different, that something was wrong. He had waited for Albus to confide in him but that didn't seem to be happening. It only added to Scorpius's existing moodiness caused by his family situation.

Sulking in the common room, he was laying on his stomach on the couch. Scorpius wasn't even paying attention to the book he was staring at, his thoughts elsewhere.

The last three months for Albus had been rough. He did his best to hide the fact that he had been turned into a werewolf (despite having turned the pack leader down upon her offer) from his friends. Coming up with excuse after excuse as to why he was disappearing five nights a week and appearing as if he hadn't slept across that week. Unlike some Hogwarts werewolves, Albus was scared of how his friend would react to the fact that just like his friend's father, he was no longer human.

"Hey."

There was no describing the pain that he felt every time he had to lie to Scorpius about what really had been going on with him. It was a pain that hit him in the chest each time that he spoke to the boy. He couldn't take it any more though and planned on telling the boy that had become his best friend.

There was only one problem... he didn't know how exactly to go about that.

"Are you okay Scorp?"

Scorpius looked up as Albus appeared. "Hi," he said back, not quite sure what to say now that the person he had been worrying over was standing in front of him. He shrugged when Albus asked if he was okay. "As okay as I'm going to be considering everything." His home life was insane and then there was whatever was going on with his best friend. "Where'd you come from?"

As Scorpius re-mentioned everything that he was going through, a look of sorrow appeared on Albus's face. His best friend was going through hell and he was only making it worse.

"The library... I was working on Professor Bishop's essay on werewolves..."

As he spoke he let the strap of his backpack fall off his shoulder, setting it at his feet. He didn't need to research much for this essay. He could complete most of it from personal experience, but it at least shifted their conversation closer to what he wanted to talk about with his best friend.

"Can I sit with you?"

"Oh," was all Scorp said when Albus said that he had been working on an essay. He wasn't sure that he believed that but he couldn't see why Albus would lie about that. Then again, he felt clueless about a lot of things lately. "Go right ahead, I won't stop you," he said when Albus asked if he could sit with him.

A sigh left him as he sat next to Scorpius, trying to muster the courage to tell him what he needed to tell him. Would his best friend hate him for this? For the news that he had to tell him so shortly after what had happened to his father?

He simply sat there for a moment, watching his friend go about his business. He couldn't take it anymore. He had to tell him... whether it meant ending the only true friendship that he had or not...

"Scorp... I know you've been going through a tough time and all... and I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you needed me... can I explain myself?"

Scorpius looked at Albus as he sat next to him. He tried to go back to his reading but he couldn't quite focus. Soon, Albus was talking and Scorpius gave up even trying to pretend that he was reading. "Sure," he said, wondering what the other boy was going to have to say for himself.

He ran a hand through his hair, gathering last minute strength to confess what he had been through to his best friend who was still grappling with his father going through something fairly similar. Only when he was comfortable did he start, staring into the flames as he spoke... not wanting to see the pain in his best friend's face.

"At the beginning of the year I was dragged along to a party by one of the senior students in our house... while I was there I found out that I could talk to snakes like my Dad did... but that wasn't the only thing..."

There was pain in his eyes as he looked at Scorp... pain and sorrow.

"Later that night they told me that they were werewolves and offered to turn me to become a member of their pack or something like that... when I refused though they turned me anyways... that's why I haven't been around. I know what happened to your Dad and didn't want to hurt you... but I also had to deal with what happened..."

A tear fell from his left eye now... just one single tear.

"You're my best friend Scorp. I didn't want to hurt you."
