Zane was not used to sharing his living space with another person. Ever since he'd become a vampire, he had mostly been on his own. Both for his own safety and that of his familys. The ones that had survived the first night he had come home as one and devoured most of them anyway. The one that stuck with him most was his mother because she had clung to him, as if she wanted to feed him.

It had been traumatic and it wasn't something he talked about. Not to anyone, ever. Zane planned to keep it a secret forever.

John had been living with him for a while now but would be going back to Hogwarts soon. "Do you think you'll be able to cope without me?" Zane asked as he came up behind John and rested his chin on the younger vampires shoulder. Zane didn't know if he would be able to but he had the army now to keep him occupied.

With each passing moment, September first loomed closer. It was a day that he both looked forward to and dreaded. It meant that he would finally start the adventure that was seventh year, but it also meant leaving behind someone whom he cared deeply for. The very man that he had moved in with.

Across the month he had slowly been gathering the things that he needed for school, buying it slowly in order to assure that he could afford everything that he needed to buy as opposed to being unable to pay his share of the rent before heading away to school. Now, he was slowly packing things, slowly allowing Zane to adjust to how empty their room would be during the school months.

As Zane's arms wrapped around him from behind him however he found himself melting into them. He didn't want to leave this embrace. It was a safe haven. A place where he was forever safe and could forget about the fact that they needed blood to survive.

"How could I ever cope without you?! Especially as I face the N.E.W.T exams this year!"

Zane sighed in response to the other mans words though he had sort of expected them. They were both young vampires. The army helped at least since there were experienced vampires that he knew now.

They helped somewhat but most relished killing and Zane knew that he had the potential to also become like that. Aside from his familys deaths, would he care about others? He didn't really want to find out.

The room felt so empty with most of Johns things packed away for school. "I'd say 'don't go back' but I think education is important and I want you to finish school," Zane said with a sigh before kissing Johns shoulder. I'll see you every Hogsmeade weekend, if you want though who knows how busy I'll get with the army."

Zane was the only reason why he had joined the army. He didn’t want violence. He wanted equality and to keep Zane from harm. Zane was his best friend and boyfriend; he didn’t want to lose him. He couldn’t lose him.

“That sounds good…”

He turned to face the vampire, dropping his shoes to the floor as he wrapped his arms around the Ravenclaw Alumnus.

“Promise me something… promise me you’ll be careful out there while Im at school…”

He held eye contact with the older male. The concern for his safety clear within his gaze.

“I can’t lose you… I won’t lose you…”

Zane smiled at John as the Gryffindor wrapped his arms around him. “I’ll do my best,” he promised when John made him promise that he would be careful while John was in school. “You won’t lose me, I’ll do fine. I doubt I’ll even get to be in the front lines yet anyway,” Zane said as he brought a hand up to John’s cheek. Zane wasn’t really sure what would happen but there was no way that he was going to let John worry about him too much while they were apart.
