Meeting (Juliet)

James knew very well that he shouldn’t be going to the Forbidden Forest and shouldn’t be meeting Juliet there. He’d heard the stories of what could be lurking within from his family, but it was one of the most private places to go at Hogwarts. James had been going in there since his first year and hadn’t gotten hurt yet. He just had to look out for staff and students that might tell on him, even though he doubted the punishments he would get for it would be too bad. Probably just more detentions, which he didn’t mind at all.

Looking around quickly, he entered the forest. He didn’t go very far. He was far enough away from the entrance that he couldn’t really be seen by people walking by, but close enough that he could get out easily enough if he needed to. The canopy of trees wasn’t even that thick; the sun was still able to provide a little light to the area. James leaned against a tree as he waited for Juliet to arrive.

Sneaking out of the dorm was never a problem for Juliet. Her roommates could care less about what she was doing or where she was going. Juliet stood in front of the mirror and smoothed out her outfit. Wait, why does it matter? I'm going into the Forbidden Forest, she thought and shook her head. Juliet took a deep breath and second look in the mirror and then headed out.

Juliet's parents told her about the horrible things in the Forbidden Forest, but by now she thought it was all just to scare her. She and her friends had never faced anything like they talked about... Of course, Juliet had almost been caught in the Forbidden Forest once. That wasn't a fond memory.

As she walked towards the Forest she watched James enter. Oh, no, I'm late! she thought suddenly frustrated with herself. Stupid mirror, she thought as she picked up the pace still looking both ways. The last thing she wanted was to get caught. Then her parents would get a letter and it might mention she was caught in the Forbidden Forest with a boy. If they named the boy she might get in even more trouble. Juliet's parents cared a lot about blood purism, but she could care less.

Finally, Juliet was at her destination. She smiled at James. He's so fine. Juliet told herself before approaching,"Hey."

James looked around him. Although slightly creepy, he didn’t see any creatures around, at least none that might actually do him some harm. He was willing to believe that during his father’s time at school, there were dangerous creatures living in here, but he had his doubts that they were still in the forest, though. If they were, they lived too deep than he had ever traveled. James was only slightly disappointed about that. He thought it might be cool to see the giant spiders, although James wasn’t sure if he’d be able to fight them long enough to be able to escape. There were always the Centaurs to see, though, and they wouldn’t do any harm.

As he waited, he peeked out every once in awhile. He wasn’t looking for Juliet. He didn’t mind waiting for her. She was one of his best friends, after all. He was just making sure that no one else was around. He really didn’t want to get caught, at least not right then. Luck seemed to be on their side, though. James hadn’t seen anyone, though he wasn’t sure how long that would last. On one of his lookouts, he saw Juliet approaching. “Hey,” he said, smiling at her. “Did anyone see you?”

Juliet shook her head, "No, I didn't see anyone." she said, but that didn't mean someone hadn't seen her. She'd been careful though. Juliet doubted that any student would have followed her into the Forbidden Forest. As for a professor? Juliet was sure that she had been seen by one of them.

"James, I could have snuck into the Gryffindor common room, but I wanted to talk about something... Privately." she said getting straight to the point. It was clear she was getting nervous as she talked. Juliet started messing with the rubber band on her wrist.

That was good then. They might be able to talk for a bit before a professor walked past on one of their rounds, hopefully. James was sure this had to be pretty important if they were meeting out here instead of somewhere in the castle. The good thing was that they weren’t right out in the open and he doubted a professor would really search the forests at night. They’d probably be safe for a while. “We should be fine until we go back to the castle then, but that doesn’t matter. Detentions are nothing.”

“Okay,” he replied, not really sure how else to respond to that. He observed her, wondering if she was nervous about something. “What’s going on, Juliet?” He was sure it couldn’t be that bad. They’ve been best friends their entire time at Hogwarts. Nothing could change that.

Juliet smiled a bit. Detention with James Potter was always fun and normally ended in more detention. Still, Juliet had gotten good at sneaking away before the others got caught. It was hard not being able to tell her parents about all the exciting things that happened in school because they disliked the Potter family.

The more she thought about it Juliet thought about not telling him that she liked him. No, I need to do this, she thought and stopped snapping her rubber band. Juliet looked James in the eye, "We've been friends since day one," she started, "but somewhere down the line I started liking you more than a friend. Like... I like you." Wow, that didn't come out the way she had wanted or had planned, but it was out there now.

Of all the things James thought this could be about, he never thought that she would tell him that she liked him. It caught him off guard and he wasn’t really sure how he should respond to it. He’d never been put into this situation before, so it was all so new to him. How did he feel about her? He wasn’t too sure about that. She was certainly pretty, which was something he’d become aware of a while ago, but James had never considered whether he liked her as more than just a friend. He knew it was something he’d have to figure out, though, and soon.

“Juliet,” he finally said, “I don’t know how I feel about you.” He wasn’t really sure if that was the right thing to say, but that was all he could think of. “I just need some time to figure things out.”
