The Christmas holiday was a rough one. The war had hit St. Mungo's, affecting many families, and also causing the ministry to expel one of their prefects. The atmosphere around Hogwarts was glum. So in a bid to raise the students' spirits... a school dance was arranged. Students of all ages were welcome to attend and the staff members would act as chaperones, keeping an eye out for any unwanted disasters.

What crazy antics would the students get up to to celebrate the beginning of a new year?

Christmas had come and past but it all had a little less shine to it this year. Perhaps it was his new status as a vampire that had taken away some of the shine. After all a year was a year when it appeared that you would be doomed to walk the earth for the rest of your life. Or at least that was his theory as to why his holiday period had been rather lack luster. 

His appearance represented that rather lack luster affair for he wore a school shirt with a poorly tied black tie, some blue jeans, and Addidas shoes whilst he stood near the wall where the slytherin table usually sat. In a teenager's mind, he had nothing. No girlfriend. No friends to lean back on... or so it seemed... and no chance of ever achieving his dream.

New Year's Eve Dance

Lulu wasn't given much of an opportunity to dress up all that often. Her family were not rich and were invited to parties that would require it and even if they had now it was even less likely with her father being a werewolf. So she had chosen the fanciest dress that she own out of her limited wardrobe. It was black, lacy and had long sleeves. She had her long black hair pulled so that it was over her right shoulder and tied up with a large red flower. Her choose were also black but with a kitten heel as she was not fond of high stilettos. Her eyes dances slighted as they scanned room hoping to see a familiar face, maybe even Lamb, but he was nowhere in sight, well not from what she could see anyway. Her gaze landed on a Gryffindor in her year named John and though she didn't know him well she decided to go and speak to him. "Hi John", she said shyly and a little nervously, "some party, I'm not a big party person but I thought that it might be interesting."

A dance was just the thing this school needed after the terrible news of what Lambert had done. Melissa was suspicious about what had happened, but there wasn’t much she could do from inside Hogwarts that’s why she sent a letter to her brother. However, the dance gave her a chance to get closer to Talon Hobbs. Her brother and Zachary were both against it because he was a half giant, but Melissa didn’t care. How different was it from being a werewolf? 

Melissa had found the courage to ask Talon to the dance as her date. She was up in the hufflepuff dorms getting ready as her friends already started to head to the dance. Melissa smoothed her dress and checked herself in the mirror one more time before heading to the New Years Dance. There she looked around for Talon, but she couldn’t find him. He’s probably still getting ready, Melissa thought.

Zane was still adjusting to his new life as well as the effort it took to keep it a secret. More importantly, the serious effort it took not to give into his new basic instincts that had caused his mothers death. Not that anyone knew that thanks to his father. He hadn't even told John that. They had both been turned around the same timeframe and weirdly, he felt like being turned into vampires had deepened their friendship.

Zane had still dressed smartly in a suit that showed off how well his body was built. Arriving at the dance, his eyes immediately sought out his fellow vampire. He was talking to a girl he recalled as being from Hufflepuff and named Lulu as he approached them. Zane slipped an arm around John's waist, finding that a decent way to keep his bloodlust impulses more in check.

"Couldn't bring yourself to make the effort?" He asked as he took in what the Gryffindor was wearing. "You look lovely tonight, Lulu. I like the flower, it stands out in your hair," he said to the girl.

A school dance was definitely not Echo's idea of fun but he had figured he would try it. If anything, he didn't want to be left alone in the common room since things were frightening. Fidgeting with his suit, he wandered into the Great Hall and looked around. There were quite a few students which was enough to have him feeling anxious and wanting to leave. Deciding that he would wait it out for at least an hour or so, he tried finding a secluded spot to settle into for a bit.

Louis wasn't sure how a dance was supposed to make anything better but at least it was a fun distraction. He kept his eyes out for his best friends but none of them seemed to be around or were busy doing their own thing. The redhead moved through the crowd and to the refreshment table where he got a drink for himself.

As Zander walked into the Great Hall, he was mildly disconcerted at seeing John with someones arm around him. He already knew that it was a fruitless crush though so he shook it off and went into an opposite direction. Zander was fairly confident in his ability to find a guy to dance with if he felt like it later. For now, he was content to mill around and look for someone interesting to talk to.

Nathaniel felt like it was his duty to show up to the dance since he was a prefect. Besides, they all could use something fun to do. He was dressed in his best formals and had done his best to look extra nice. He figured he would be meeting his boyfriend there but for now, he kept himself open for social interaction. There were people dancing, people looking like they wanted to be elsewhere and then the passive folk. All the usual types you would see at a school sanctioned dance. Nathaniel hoped that there wouldn't be too much trouble. He wanted to enjoy his night without having to do Prefect things.

New Year's Eve Dance

Lulu started a little when she heard the voice of another boy. He was a year older than her and John and in Ravenclaw house. She searched through her mind for him and it landed on Zane. He put his arm around John in a possessive way that was seemed more than just a 'bro' thing. She hadn't known that John was gay but then it was not something that either of them had discussed but then she wouldn't have called themselves close either. It wasn't that she didn't think that he or even Zane were cute, because they were, her boy focus had been on Lamb lately. Zane complimented her on her outfit and then on the accessory in her hair. Lulu blushed a little couldn't help but feel a little pleased as well. She had chosen the flower to break up black and it seemed to have done the trick. "Thank you Zane. You look very nice too," she said. Her eyes scanned the room and she noticed a few familiar faces in echo nichols a third year Hufflepuff who had taken a seat in secluded area, zander goode another Gryffindor who was on their Quidditch team and was in her year. louis weasley , another Gryffindor though younger was also there along with @melissa a Hufflepuff girl in her year and being a bit of a social butterfly decided to go and join her. "See you later," she said with smile to zane augustin and john boone as she made her way to her fellow badger. "Hey @melissa some night hey"

Annie Le Beau, the serpent with the angel face made her way into the great hall, letting her quarter-veela charm flow freely from her as she strode through the doors into the great hall, smirking freely about the room, taking in her surroundings. she had definitely seen the Great Hall looking worse, not to mention its inhabitants. Annie cast her eyes around the several attractive students, her eyes took in men and women alike, though she did her best to avoid showing too much interest in her own gender. There may have been several queer students here already but she didn't want to tempt fate by being honest herself. Not about that, or much else.

Annie had chosen to appear unescorted, knowing that she would have no trouble finding someone here. Expecting that there may have been competition for her attention. She liked the idea of that.

The last place Katia wanted to be was at some stupid dance. Sure, she had heard about the unfortunate event that had occurred at St. Mungo's, but Katia would have rather been up in the Gryffindor Tower studying than to have been dragged here by her so called friend. Katia knew that she meant well, but the first thing that happened was her friend took off leaving her standing by the punch bowl. She sighed as she grabbed herself a drink. "I guess I should enjoy it while I'm here." she said to herself hoping that no one thought she was crazy for talking to herself.

He had seen him around but he did not know who he was. He just knew that he was a Hufflepuff and was younger than he was. But there was just something about the boy that made Jordan want to be near him. He tried his best to stay away he really did but it was like he was blind and everything was black and then he arrived and the lights switched on and he could see and everything was beautiful but this boy was the most beautiful thing that he had ever seen.

He had never felt this way before and it scared and angered him at the same time. What was it about this boy that made him feel this way. He did like it. It wasn't right. But…

He had to have him. The boy was going to his and his alone. He just had to know who he was first.

Jordan arrived at the dance hoping the boy would there. He scanned the room and saw several familiar faces but he was not there for them he was there for the boy and the boy alone. He had made sure that he looked his best and was dressed in the best clothes that he owned. Still scanning his gaze finally found the light that was the boy. Taking a deep breath to settle his nerves he plastered a smile on his face hoping that he would seem friendly. He didn't want to scare him off after all, Jordan made his way to where the boy was seated in a secluded area of the Great Hall.

"What are you doing sitting on your own. It is a party you know," he said hoping that he didn't come across as being forceful. "My name is Jordan by the way. Jordan Hammersmith, Fourth Year Gryffindor and a Beater. I have seen you around a bit.."

Echo smiled shyly at those few people that he knew and sometimes actually even spoke to. Even so, he stayed in his safe, secluded little pocket of space as he watched people milling about and socializing. Pouring himself a glass of punch, he sipped at it before looking up in surprise when someone made their way over to him. Not that it was very unusual, sometimes people were drawn to him, but he still tended to be caught off guard when it happened.

Echo shrugged when the boy asked why he was sitting on his own. "Echo Nichols, third year Hufflepuff," Echo provided, his voice soft as silk and sweet as honey. "I don't like crowds." The boy seemed nice enough but Echo still fidgeted in his seat, his eyes darting briefly out at the rest of the crowd before settling back onto Jordan.

Lucy, thanks to her aunt was actually feeling fairly confident. She'd been mulling over the advice Ginny had given her, about asking someone until it had been too late... If only by minutes. She had been down in the Hufflepuff commonroom, when she had seen the person she was interested in spending her evening with leave to come here. She took a deep breath as she walked into the room, smiling. Her eyes quickly scanned the men and women in the room and before her brain had caught up her feet began to move, slowly, elegantly, with a grace that it apparently took a ball to bring out from within her. She had already committed herself to this course of action before second thoughts began to brew up inside her. She was about to do something she would never be able to hide again.

She took one last breath before her hand found its way to lulu sandoval 's shoulder. She shot her team mate a smile. "Hey, Lulu." She purred gently to the other, letting herself be confident, assertive, and impulsive. "Would you like to dance?" She asked the other, uncertain if Lulu was even interested in women, and unready to walk it back as a 'friendly' offer, Lucy was in the process of outing herself before the school. She wasn't ashamed of who she was, even if she wasn't entirely sure that she was ready, or that her father's reaction would be particularly great. She wasn't going to hide, she wasn't going to be left stuck to a wall, and she hadn't made any other plans.
